Zoe & Laura
Zoë
Peate trained as
a singer at Trinity College of Music where she was awarded the Lady Maud Warrender Prize for outstanding achievements in singing and musicianship.
Her extensive
concert and recital engagements include appearances at the Wigmore
Hall, the South Bank, Fairfield Hall - Croydon, St John's Smith Square,
Jubilee Hall – Aldeburgh, The Dome – Brighton, BBC Radio Sussex, and a
highly successful series of concerts in Kuwait for the British Ambassador,
the opening of British Trade Week and the Kuwait Chamber Philharmonia.
Zoë's life now revolves around directing
and training choirs and she has conducted the Sixpence Singers, a 30 strong
children's choir, taken part in the West Sussex ‘Sing Out’ project and was
invited to conduct the bi-annual Carol Concert for the West Sussex WI in
Chichester Cathedral on two occasions.
As Musical
Director for the Pulborough & District Gilbert & Sullivan Society she led
them through many productions and a trip to Ireland which resulted in an
award for ‘Sheer Entertainment’ at the Waterford Light Opera Competition.
Zoë is also
Musical Director of the choirs
Kaleidoscope Singers, Amici Singers and
Sandgate
Singers who have
performed at Parham House, St Mary's House Bramber, Petworth House, and at
many venues in the area. She is Hon.
Secretary to the successful Steyning Music Society which promotes
professional concerts in the town.
Laura
Skuce started the piano at age 5, the oboe at 10, and joined the Junior Department
of the Royal Academy of Music at 11, finally being accepted for full time
studies at 16, studying with Lady Barbirolli and Janet Craxton.
Professional life began with singing at the piano, which has taken her
across the world (for example, on the QE2 with Joe Loss) and led to
Opportunity Knocks and other television appearances both at home and abroad.
Work as a duo culminated on a beach in Barbados for the Millennium!
Laura is
now much in demand as a singing teacher and is Musician in Residence at
Cottesmore School. She is frequently called upon as oboist and accompanist
for local orchestras and choral societies.
A full
time mother of three boys, she spends her spare time playing in church and
jiving (she can't stay awake long enough to read a book anymore!)
