About us

Cantatrice: woman singer

This all-ladies choir was formed in its home town of Steyning in 2004. The initial worry of finding 40 or so singers to make it financially viable soon vanished when 90 ladies (yes ninety!) signed up at the first rehearsal.

Such was the success of this choir that a sister choir began three months later in Horsham - this also continues to grow.

We sing a wide variety of easy, challenging, beautiful and fun music with the emphasis on enjoyment. Although commitment is encouraged and the choirs work to a high standard there are no auditions and it is not necessary for choir members to read music as CD's of the individual voice parts are available.

The choirs have been fortunate to perform in an exciting array of venues, including Chichester Festival Theatre, Worthing Pavilion and Assembly Hall and the Drill Hall in Horsham.

A real boost for the choirs was their recent successes in the Worthing Music Festival when they won both of their classes and were awarded two trophies.

The choirs benefit from professional leadership in the shape of its Musical Director, Zoë Peate and Accompanist, Laura Skuce. The choirs seek to work with other professional musicians and a recent highlight was a workshop with internationally renowned choral conductor, David Lawrence.
